The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea(SOLAS),1974

-The main objective of the SOLAS Convention is to specify standards for the ship’s structure,machinery and electrical installations,fire fighting,live saving appliances,radiocommunications,carriage of cargoes,carriage of dangerous goods,nuclear ships,ISM,safety measures for high speed craft,special measures to enhance maritime safety,additional safety measures for bulk carriers,safety of navigation and certificates.

Each Contracting Government are responsible for ensuring that ships under their flag comply with its requirements and issued Certificates.
